Make A “Statement” Tote

The Statement Tote Pattern

The Statement Tote Pattern

I have just launched my latest bag pattern! The Statement Tote!!! While I always knew that I would need to add a tote to my pattern collection I was determined it would not be your ordinary tote. I wanted something fun and bold. Something that made a statement. And it does just that in size, shape and in its innovative peekaboo panel where you can interchange inserts that are customized. Yes you can add a funny saying with vinyl, embroidery, stencils and fabric paint, or a quilt square. The possibilities are endless. Imagine adding your logo or a sign for an important cause. I think since I got my sassy sayings out my next one will be a Bible quote.

Yes the size of the bag is large, on purpose. The size is actually modeled after the large Dior tote bag that is very popular right now. The bag is great for everyday carry but is perfect for shopping, a weekend trip bag, a beach bag.
I am hosting a Sew Along for the Statement Tote in my Lovely For Life Facebook Group. You can join the group here. It will be through live videos in that group. The first Session is January 25th at 7:30 PM CST. So grab your pattern, materials and sign up to join us.

More info on the Statement Bag:
Sometimes a big grab and go bag is all you need. Perfect for running errands, shopping, and a roomy carry-on bag. The twist built into this one comes from the idea that sometimes you want to personalize your bag temporarily. The peek a boo window can be used for interchangeable insert customized by embroidery, a favorite quote from a T-shirt that you rather not wear, kids artwork, or any number of things. When you get tired of it you can easily switch it out.
Finished Bag Approximately: 17 inches wide, 14 inches deep and 17 inches tall

You can purchase the pattern for 20% until January 24th with the code: LOVELY.

Clear Stadium Bag with Free Pattern and SVG

Three Clear Stadium Bags

So COVID is coming to an end! Well, at least that is what I am hoping for. I think we all are hoping the world gets back to normal soon. That means concerts and sporting events. Some of the sports venues now require only clear bags so I thought in preparation I would make a cute clear stadium bag pattern for you. No, you don’t have to just use it for stadium events. The free clear stadium bag pattern will be perfect for so many events this summer. It is so fun!

Don’t let how cute this bag is fool you. It is so easy to make and I have made a video to walk you through the process. You can check out the video on how to make the bag here.

You can readily find the PVC plastic and other materials I used and I will link some that I used.

Another reason I love working with PVC vinyl is to use vinyl cut on my cutting machine to add monograms or other personalization.I have also provided you some details on what materials I used. Enter your email below to get access to this and all my other free files.

My Little Round Coin Purse

My grandmother gave me two little coin purses when I was little and I loved them. I kept all my treasures in them. It is such a sweet memory. I still have one of them and it makes me sad that I can’t find the other one.

As an adult I always organize my bags with smaller bags by different categories. Makeup, sunglasses, charging cables, pens, etc. It especially comes in handy when I am traveling. One day I was playing around with the idea of another little bag to put things like coins, sweetener packets, and my face mask in and loved the simplicity of this little circle zip purse. I can use fun vinyls clear and embossed, cork or even leather. I also put vinyl cut with my Cricut on the back of some to label what is in each one. You could also add a monogram or add decoration by embroidering the back before you make them.

Don’t worry this little purse is a great one for a beginner sewist/bag maker. It is made in just a couple of steps. I  suggest getting a purse zipper sometimes called a #5 which is wider than the normal dressmaker’s zipper. You can find them on Amazon. I will link to the shop where I get almost all of my Purse Zippers in lengths versus individual zips.

There are two sizes included. You can use the pdf pattern file and cut it with scissors or a rotary cutter or you can use the SVG file and cut it with an electronic cutting machine such as a Cricut or Silhouette. You can make a batch on the large 24 inch cricut matt to sell or to gift to a bridal party or for Christmas gifts.

Here is what you will need:

  • Vinyl, Cork, or Thin Leather: Small 6X6 inches or Large 8X8 inches
  • Purse Zipper/ #5: Small 6 inches long or Larger 8 inches long

This will be great for gifts for mom, sisters, teachers for all sorts of holidays. You could also put vinyl or embroidery on the  Piece A size to customize it. There are so many options.

    Introducing Rebecca’s Bag Pattern

    Rebecca’s Bag Pattern

I love large oversized bags for the function and the drama! Rebecca’s Bag has a simple yet elegant shape. It is a bag that can you can grab to go shopping, to the beach or for memosa with the girls.

You will definitely want to make several versions so you can play with the colors and textures of the vinyls. There are a lot of fun ones out there.

Version 1 is made with 8 to 12 gauge clear vinyl. Version 2 can be just as fun but is the lined version best made with solid vinyl. You can also make the middle panel pop with a different color vinyl for either version. Let your imagination run wild. I also want to put some vinyl names or saying on a clear version with my Cricut machine.

This bag has plenty of room for everything you need to carry. Sorry I am not responsible if your spouse and kids put too many items in here. A quick trip to the store you can put all your goodies in it. It folds down nicely so you could fold it up and put it in your checked bag and use it to carry all those souvenirs back from your trip. Of course that is when we can travel again. The measurements are approximately 25 inches wide x 11 inches tall

    Introducing Posh Bracelet Bag

Who does not love a new handbag!! A good handbag tops off an outfit beautifully. I own a lot of handbags from mid range to designer, I have made so many handbags over the last few years many of which were helping pattern designers test their bags.

I love a lot of different types of bags from the practical to the just for fun to those for special occasions. I think you need some of everything. One thing I found I wanted was more bags that push the envelop on style. Something more cutting edge of fashion and even items you may see carried down the runway. That’s why I really wanted to start designing my own bags.

Last week I lived that dream by launching my first bag pattern. Posh Bracelet Bag. She is a small wonder. She was designed to give you that “posh” look, something a bit special that you want to wear when you don’t want the usual oversized, overwork tote but also with a crossbody so she can still be practical for running errands.

Posh is approximately 8 inches wide and 7.5 inches tall but don’t worry she can carry everything you need while on the run. I stuffed in there a small wallet, sunglasses, compact, ChapStick, sunglasses, and of course courtesy of Corona a mask. She can be made with cotton, vinyl, cork and soft leather.

Check out my testers bags and pick up your pattern here. Don’t worry more bags are coming.

    Good Golly Miss Molly!!

    Sallie Tomato is Relaunching Molly!

Molly is a great bag by Sallie Tomato that I recently tested for her relaunch and she is a beauty!! I never made the original bag under its original name Union St. Satchel so I can’t compare but I can say this bag is a pretty easy make with big style!!

Molly is a great tote bag that has a really cute feature that allows you to clip the sides in to make a fun new shape. Coupled with the snap closer I feel this also helps with the safety of this bag that does not have a zipper closer. I like the extra security. The bag is 19 inches wide, 12 inches high, and 7.5 inches deep.

My Make, I must admit I was a little worried this bag was not quite my normal style but I truly love it now that is made. I made it with Terrarium by Jason Yenter purchased at The Fabric Candy Shoppe.

I used a shiny black croc embossed vinyl for the handles. It took me forever to figure out my fabric choices  and was a bit nervous if this would work but now I love it!! Even my husband commented on much he likes the look!!  “It’s very Springy!” was his exact comment.

Now that I have carried the bag for couple weeks I can say it is such a fun bag to carry! It is  perfect for the summer and to wear with fun solid summer dresses. It also pairs well with jean shorts and a tank top I am living in to survive the Texas summer heat. Overall this pattern is a real winner in my book. A pretty quick make and I would say good for even a confident beginner. The only thing I would change for my next one would be to not put on the side strap D ring and clip and just attach it all the way up. Definitely not a flaw just a choice.

What do you think of this bag! It you would like to try it head over the Sallie Tomato and grab a copy!
